Self Assessment

I had a good experience with my blog. I learned a lot. I learned how to make links and add pictures to my post. It was very interesting. I enjoy my blog and I had the chance to express my mind. Since this was a class assignment they were several post I had to do and I didn't like, What makes a good liar , and Why we lie were to post I had some trouble putting together put they came out alright. On the other hand they were several post that were very easy to do, and I also enjoyed doing them. Habits of mind and The quotes were two post I learned a lot from doing. Although The I AM A Mother poem was not an assignment I was very proud of that poem. I Am very proud of all my post because I did my best in all of them. I might still use my blog since I have a computer at home. I might use it everytime I have an important topic that I would like to give an opinion about. I m very proud and happy about my blog and I believe I deserve at least a 90 in my grade because did my best.

Myspace and Youtube are websites were people could post videos and comments.
These websites are suppose to be fun for teenagers. It gives them a chance to communicate with with friends and other peoples.Lately what Myspace and YouTube users have been doing is that they are doing a lot of illegal activities . Teenagers have been doing a lot of cruel things to others teens and they like to brag about it so they tape record and put it on Myspace. These kids feel famous and important when other teens see this bad cruel videos. I read this article Web networking photos come back to bite defendants . This article is about this young boy and young girl that got charged in a drunken driving crash that seriously injured a woman. The defendant denied drinking but when the prosecutor was searching for evidence he found pictures of the guy in the Internet drinking and joking about alcohol. These pictures led to his sentencing of 2yrs in prison. There's this other article Teenagers Misbehaving, for Al l Online to Watch. This article talks about various Kids bullying other kids and knocking down fences and taping it just so other kids will see it and laugh. I don't think this is a good idea because this kids are giving the policies evidence for they arrest. Just last month, after viewing a video of the beating of a 13-year-old girl that was broadcast on Web sites including MySpace, Photobucket and YouTube, the authorities arrested three freshman girls from nearby North Babylon High School. While searching online for more articles about why we should be careful what we post online I found this article YouTube, Myspace only scapegoats in youth crimes By Laura Becherer. Is about Several Florida teens are being charge for the kidnapping and assault that placed 16-year-old Victoria Lindsay in the hospital. And again the evidence was found in myspace . Myspace is a website to interact with friends not to incriminate yourself or other people.

Satire

Satire is a literary tone used to ridicule or make fun of humans.
Mark Twain wrote an article "Advice to Youth" in 1882. This article is very satirical because he gives bad advice to the youth. Instead of him giving us the youth of good examples or a good advice on being a better person he makes fun of us and he encourage us negatively. In his first advice he tells us that we should "always obey our parents, when they are present". I don't believe that this is a very good advice because we should always obey are parents even if they are or aren't around. What Mark Twain is doing is that he's being very satirical. He knows that he has no control over the youth. HE is telling us the wrong thing maybe if we are smart enough will know right from wrong. If kids are raised correctly with a good example parents won't need to tell them what to do. The youth now an days don't like to be told what to do. Most likely if you tell them to do the wrong thing they might just do the right thing. It's part of human nature. Mark Twain made fun of the youth but in a very decent way that wasn't cruel. In my opinion this article is not a good article for the youth to read it because they might get wrong idea. Most kids my use his advice and then use him as an excuse. But this article is a very good example of satire.
I learned today that if I am looking for the best example of satire I should watch Saturday Night Live.

In the website The Onion they have an article named Al Gore Places Infant Son In Rocket To Escape Dying Planet. In this article Americans are using satire to make fun of Al Gore's speech.

In this article Gore is being mocked by the same people he has tried to save how ironic. In this article they are using satire by comparing Al Gore to Supermans Father and his son to Superman. He's putting his son in a rocket to save him from planet earth. In the original speech Gore said that we are in danger if we don't do something about it we going to be in danger. Satire is explaning this speech to us in a very ridiculous way which makes it seem really funny.

What makes a good liar

There are certain people that can tell when someone is lying. Their are certain people that do not know how to lie. Bad liars ignore eye contact they prefer to look around the room. A good liar needs to make eye contact and they cant be fidgeting. If is possible a good liar needs to remember hes lie and never switch his storie. The most important thing a good liar needs to have is a good memorie. I f you have a bad memorie and you cant remember what was your lie people are going to know you lied and they wont ever trust you. A good liar also needs to be trusted if people don't trust you they would never believe you. According Montaigne's Essay "On Liars " you have to be ccareful about what you are lying there are lies that can get you in some serious trouble. There are always limitations to lying. A lie can start a war or could easily get someone in trouble. Mark twain is also a writer and he sees life in a different point of view he believes that lying is very bad. In the poem he wrote he saids that whenever he saids a lie he tells the truth. Mark tries to explain that lies are not needed and he prefers to always say the truth.

Why we lie

Lyin g is when someone doesn't speak the truth or when someone makes up something. Everybody lies. It may only be “white” lies, but everyone tells lies. There are four different type of lies. People lie out of fear. Eventually children begin to use lying to get out of trouble or get something they want. An adult could lie to a cop because he's scared to go to jail. When a person lies out of fear they know they did something wrong and they don't want to face the consequences. The second type of lie can be a habit. There are many people that make lying a habit. Humans get use to lying to protect themselves, or to make them look good. Some people gain financially or socially. There are certain people that when they get away with various lies they think that's lying is really then the truth. Then they start lying for no reason and that's how lying becomes a habit. Modelling is the third reason why people or children lie. At home a child maybe use to seeing their parents lying so they believe is okay for them to do the same. The forth reason is overprediction or in other words assuming. Usually kids like to assume a lot which leads to little white lies. Kids like to overpredict a reaction.

I have lied several times before. I have lie to get out of trouble a couple of times. I have also lied about myself sometimes to impress other people. One time when I was in the 9Th grade I lied to my mother about going to school and I got in a lot of trouble with her because the school called to tell her that I was absent.

This is an example of police breaking in someones house because they were rumors that this people were doing something illegal. Rumors are mostly lies most of this rumors could really get someone in trouble.

Alternative Energies

In my post Al Gores challenge I wrote about three alternatives Energy resource. The city is working on energy that doesn't harm the environment. I took it upon myself to research various Energy sources such as Renewable energy which is energy generated from natural resources—such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat. One new energy resources that wont harm the environment is Wave power.Wave power is a form of renewable energy is the energy of the ocean surface waves . Wave power is the energy from ocean surface waves it includes electricity generation, desalination, and the pumping of water into reservoirs and currents. Electricity generation is the process of converting non electrical energy to electricity. Desalinisation means several processes that remove excess salt and other minerals from water.

Another Alternative energy resources is Hydroelectricity. This is a form of hydro power, and is the most widely used form of renewable energy. It produces no waste, and does not produce carbon dioxide. This method stores energy in the form of water. It pumped from a lower elevation reservoir to a higher elevation

Al Gore's challenge

Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. was born March 31,1948 He's an American environmental activist, an an author, former politician(senator), and former journalist. He served as the forty-fifth Vice President of the United States from 1993 to 2001 under president Bill Clinton. He also ran for president and lost to George W. Bush.

On July 17 ,2008 Al Gore gave a speech on how our nation is in danger and nobody is doing anything about it. "Our weather has been changing a lot and we have a big crisis on our hands." The United States keeps borrowing money from China to buy oil from the Persian Gulf to burn it in ways that destroys the planet. Every bit of this has to change. According to Gore "the solution to our problem is to stop our reliance on carbon-based fuels". Carbon-based fuels products are plastic bottles ,cars, plastics bags, computers and many more things. Al Gore believes we could use fuels that are not expensive, don't cause pollution and are abundantly available right here at home. These fuels are solar power, wind power and geothermal power. Scientists have confirmed that enough solar energy falls on the surface of the earth and enough wind power blows through the Midwest corridor every day to also meet percent of US electricity demand. We can start right now using solar power, wind power and geothermal power to make electricity for our homes and businesses.

I believe this is a very big challenge and that maybe 10 years is not enough. I believe that if we don't do nothing to help our nation get better something very bad can happen to our earth.

There's not much I can do myself to meet this challenge but I will definitely talk about this topic with my family , friends and teachers. I am going to try to encourage everyone to listen to Al Gore speech and maybe together we can do something to help our nation before is to late.

Large scale wind farms are connected to electrical grids. Individual turbines can provide electricity to isolated locations. In windmills, wind energy is used directly as mechanical energy for pumping water or grinding grain.

Solar power is a powerful source of energy. The sunlight that shines on the Earth in just one hour could meet world energy demand for an entire year.The sun has produced energy for billions of years. Solar energy is the sun’s rays (solar radiation) that reach the earth.Solar energy can be converted into other forms of energy, such as heat and electricity.

Geothermal power is energy generated by heat stored beneath the Earth's surface or the collection of absorbed heat in the atmosphere and oceans.The largest group of geothermal power plants in the world is located in The Geysers, a geothermal field in California As of 2007, geothermal power supplies less than 1% of the world's energy.

In life usually people say don't believe what I hear until I see it with my own eyes but not always what I see is true. This quote means a lot to me because it guides me through life. People around me lie a lot and they also know how to give me a different image. I dont believe everything until I investigate it and until I have the right details to know that what they are saying or doing is the truth. I am living in an enviroment were there is little honesty and I should open my eyes more to see reality. I believe everyone should read this quote and apply it to there life.

This quote is one of my favorite quotes. Sometime people make mistake some that hurt other people. Just because some one hurt me doesn't mean I can't forgive them.When I forgive someone who has hurt me that doesn't make me weak or sensible it means I am are very strong to understand that everyone makes mistake. In life you need to learn how to forgive and forget. Of course we can't always be like this. There are certain times I have been betrayed by a boyfriend or a close friend, but I have learn to forgive them because they just made a mistake.

Students, Teachers and Parents Weigh In on State of the School

This article talks about NYC school and how many students,teachers and parents responded to the Department of Education survey. The city believes this survey is very important for all students to complete, because they have the chance to express there concerns and their worries. According to this article students and teacher were very satisfied with their school.
Schools are maintaining order and making it a priority to help students achieve and graduate.
I agree in some parts with this article because for the last couple of years NYC school are becoming safer for students. But not all school are safe. Some school have really bad students and very low graduation rates. The High School I attended my freshman year wasn't a very good school compared to the small alternative school I attend now. I am very satisfied with the education I have been receiving here at West Side High School. The only thing that can be done to improve my high school and many NYC school is if they hire more teachers so we can have smaller classes. Also hiring more security guards will maybe make students feel safer in the hallways. I took this survey and I believe every student should also take it. Students and also parents are given the opportunity to expressed their opinion of are education. Hopefully the mayor listens to our major concerns and help improve all New York City schools.

My favorite type of music is hip hop and r&b. My favorite singer is Alicia Keys. Alicia Keys has many albums but my favorite album is her latest album AS I AM. That album contains many nice songs.
My favorite song on that album is LIKE YOU'LL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN.

A habit is a skill or something I am used to doing very frequently. A habit can be good or bad they depend on my personality. Habits express the way I am. Habits of Mind are performed in response to questions and problems. Habits are a part of ones lifestyle. Habits are the way people approach life and solve problems. Habits can also be good qualities that human carry within.

A good habit of mind is that my thinking is flexible. I am very open minded when it comes to a problem. I am always trying to find a solution. I change my mind very often and am always looking for something intresting to do. Being flexible also means I have the ability to rewire my self very fast. My character incudes many mood swings. I can be very happy one day. The next day I can be sad or depressed. I am also very adventurous and curious. I like to see new things and go to different places. I like to travel and have fun. I also enjoy goin to parties and clubs. I believe I am a very flexible person.
